Biography
Andreas Ventouris was born in Athens in 1983. He holds a degree in Interior Architecture and Design from the University of West Attica and graduated with honors from the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he studied Printmaking under George Kazazis and Yiannis Gourzis.
Since 2016, he has expanded his practice into Byzantine Iconography, studying under Pavlos Samios and Demosthenes Avramidis. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is part of several private and museum collections throughout Greece and Europe. A three-time award winner and member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE), he currently lives and works in Athens.
Images of Abandonment
Andreas Ventouris’ painting is a profound study of light emerging from the silence of abandoned spaces. Focusing on factory interiors, deserted homes, and railway stations, his work uncovers the metaphysical nature of these environments, transforming cold architecture into a realm of existential search. Through a contemporary approach to sfumato, Ventouris utilizes color not to describe matter, but to de-materialize it. His “chromatic breaths” and tonal gradations evoke a sense of vastness (l’immensité), where solid structures seem to dissolve into an atmosphere of mystery. His art is a continuous dialogue between light and shadow a revelation of the spirituality that lies dormant within the ruins of the industrial landscape.
